Comment:

 I suppose you are referring to the settings in ''Preferences → Transfers →
 Permissions''. You only have to configure this once; I don't see the
 problem. To change the permissions of already uploaded files using the the
 ''File → Info'' panel you can apply permissions recursively for both files
 and folders.
