 Thank you for your quick reply. I've downloaded the latest nightly build
 -- 3.3b1 (5202). I run it from the Desktop and didn't put it on top of the
 other version.

 The crashes seem to have disappeared. I've been able to download and
 upload a few files from different FTP serveurs. The build is extremely
 slow -- when you click on a transfer button, it takes a minute or two
 before the transfer actually starts -- but I suppose that nightly builds
 aren't optimized for speed.
