 Thanks for posting this! Based on this information, an easier workaround
 is to move away the file `.CFUserTextEncoding` in your users home folder.

 {{{
 cd ~; rm .CFUserTextEncoding
 }}}

 It will be recreated when you shuffle around the preferred localizations
 in system preferences. You will have to restart the ''Finder.app'' after
 removing the file. '''Warning''': I don't currently know what implications
 this has to other applications.
