#4237: Bookmark editings not working (problem cause isolated)
-------------------------------------+--------------------------------------
Reporter: jarkko.lavila@… | Owner: dkocher
Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: normal | Milestone:
Component: interface | Version: 3.4.1
Severity: normal | Keywords: Bookmarks
-------------------------------------+--------------------------------------
I have few bookmarks, I can edit them, but when I quit Cyberduck, all
changes I did are gone. If I delete my old bookmark, quit Cyberduck and
start it again, the old bookmark is back!!! I can make new bookmark(s) and
they are gone when I start Cyberduck next time. I have dragged my new
bookmarks in the Desktop and I can drag them back in Cyberduck's window,
but they are gone when I start Cyberduck next time.
This has been long time problem - I think more than a year or so.
Okey, I started to investigate the problem, I destroyded preference file,
nothing. Then I found Application support folder in my Library, there is
Cyberduck folder in it and it contains Favorites.plist That's it! There is
all my OLD bookmarks, I tried to moved it away for testing, but I needed
my password for that.. hmmm... Kind of unexpected I think.. Ok, I did
that.. finally all my old bookmarks are gone! But Cyberduck didn't save
any new bookmarks, they just disappear without warning, just like before!
No errors or anything, just blank bookmarks window when I started
Cyberduck again. Then I checked permissions (Command+i) of
~/Library/Applications support/Cyberduck folder and those was kind of
weird I think, grey colored "unknown read/write". All other applications
support folders permissions was black colored "Me read/write". I deleted
the whole ~/Library/Application support/Cyberduck folder. Cyberduck made a
new one when started it and permisiions are "Me read/write", I dragged my
bookmarks from Desktop into a empty Cyberduck bookmark window, quitted
Cyberduck and started again, and finally everythiong looks good and
working ok.
Maybe that permission problem came when I used Apple's Migration Assistant
when I got my new Mac a more than a year a go. BUT I think this is
Cyberduck issue. Some sort of error message or "plan-b" action when it
cannot save bookmarks into a ~/Library/Application
support/Cyberduck/Favorites.plist should be done! Average Joe probably
cannot fix a problem like this.
