 I did some more research on general Drag and Drop problems with Lion and
 found a number of posts on the Apple forums.  Apparently there has been a
 number of problems with Lion in this regard.

 There where a number of things to try and I finally found that doing a
 Permissions repair and restart fixed my problem..

 All is well that ends well..
